It figures that with only a few weeks left in London, I have only just discovered a truly fab hair salon. Last week I booked myself an appointment at the Covent Garden-based salon Windle, where many of the hairdressers have been trained at Bumble and bumble in New York, where I went religiously for almost 10 years (and made me think, why haven’t I discovered this salon before?) I absolutely loved Windle and it’s a shame I have only found it now. Unlike a lot of top London salons, they make no mention of any celebrity clientele, and the stylists focus on quietly delivering excellent haircuts and colour.
It is a quiet, discreet place that reminded me a lot of Bumble’s uptown salon, where the look is low-key and industrial. Windle is the kind of place where you can walk out with Park Avenue Princess hair, or a mod, asymmetrical bob (and there is absolutely no product pushing). My stylist, Signe, spent a lot of time listening to exactly what I wanted and how I style my hair. My caveat? Something long, layered and fun but easy to style as I am a busy mum – but at all costs avoiding the dreaded Mom Bob. I loved my cut, which is the best I’ve had in London. The website has lots of information about each stylist and the various treatments – it’s well worth a look before booking in. Prices start at a very reasonable £50 for a haircut.
