Although Singapore can seem like one big air-conditioned mall, dig a little deeper and you'll find dozens of chic boutiques selling everything from vintage style dresses to cheeky homewares and beach inspired clothes. All the big luxury brands such as Prada and Louis Vuitton are here, but this isn't the only reason to shop in Singapore. Home-grown designers such as Nicholas Wong are making an impact on the international fashion scene with his preppy-with-a-twist clothes, and Singaporean company Kwanpen produces some of world's best crocodile handbags, shoes and accessories. Best of all, shopping in Singapore is a truly pleasant experience, with no shortage of taxis, cheap eats or upscale bars.

There are cushions silk-screened with images of Mao's face, and more tame options include furniture, baby clothes and women's fashions. A Bangkok location is set to open later this month.
