It's A Wash

Submitted by Christina Valhouli on Mon, 2008-07-07 07:33.

hamptondesignutility.jpgThe humble laundry room is arguably the last place in the house to get a glam makeover. Sure, it’s not fun to wash and iron but since you have to do it, why not make the space more beautiful? I stumbled across the website of Hampton Design which features this ultra-luxe (and staggeringly big) laundry room. It’s calm and clean, with zinc countertops and a deep carerra marble farmhouse sink. Another luxury is the row of three washers and dryers, which can be seen here. If your budget won’t stretch for marble and zinc and you love DIY,  recreate the look with Ikea’s Adel cabinets for a Shaker style look, and their Domsjo farmhouse sink. If money is no object, call Hampton Design on (631) 329- 2444.

Bond Getaway

Submitted by Christina Valhouli on Tue, 2008-07-01 07:46.

browns_hotel.jpgBond excitement is reaching fever pitch this summer. The new Bond film trailer can be seen online here, and Penguin has just released a newly redesigned set of Bond books- along with a new Bond novel written by Sebastian Faulks. This summer, London’s Imperial War Museum will exhibit “For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond”, and to really soak up the Bond feeling, Rocco Forte’s Brown’s Hotel is offering The Ian Fleming Centenary stay. So what’s the connection between Brown’s and Bond? It makes an appearance in ‘Icebreaker’ and the stylish Donovan Bar offers a wide range of decadent Bond cocktails.  A few of the Fleming Centenary package highlights include: overnight accommodation in a luxurious room or suite; two tickets to “For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond” at the Imperial War Museum London; two Bond cocktails in The Donovan Bar, and a hard-back copy of Sebastian Faulks new James Bond Novel. The package starts at £315 and is available until 28 December 2008. For more information call 0800 988 4040. Brown’s Hotel, Albemarle Street, London W1S 4BP. Phone:  +44 (0)20 7493 6020.

Restoration Hardware Goes Small

Submitted by Christina Valhouli on Wed, 2008-06-25 07:48.

restohardwarebaby.jpgFans of Restoration Hardware’s clean, classic looks... listen up. The brand has just unveiled a new baby and children’s line of furniture, bedding and accessories, called Restoration Hardware Baby & Child. The collection has all the hallmarks of the full-sized range – expect good, classic designs in the signature colours like silver sage and bisque. There’s also a clothing line, so parents can match their babies' outfits to their crib (which could all be taking the matching thing a little too far, but hey, some people like that). The bedding is stylish and crisp but expect to pay a whopping $129 for a printed bedskirt. Online shopping and gift registry is available.

Don't Be a Heel

Submitted by Christina Valhouli on Tue, 2008-06-24 07:45.

heelbag.jpgThis bag is the fashion equivalent of a pug – it’s so darn ugly it deserves another look. This black leather shoe bag from A'N'D comes with a double handle and a lock, and if you happen to have a pair of wooden soled boots, well, it would be hard to match it anymore. And at least the bottom of your bag won’t get dirty. The bag sells for $360 at Creatures of Comfort.

Safety First

karllagerfeldad.jpgI love all the strangeness of Karl Lagerfeld, and have always felt that dressing up as him would be the best Halloween costume ever. Just think of how much you can do with the dark suit, the sunglasses, the black gloves, the frilly shirts and the walking stick... not to mention the powdered hair and his weird diet book. It’s all kind of goth meets Victorian era vampire and nobody else in the fashion world is walking around like that. Monsieur Lagerfeld’s latest project is appearing in these French road safety ads for fluorescent jackets. The tag line says, “It’s yellow, it’s ugly, it doesn’t go with anything, but it could save your life.” I can't wait to see what he does next.

The New It Bag?

notadouchebag.jpgWhen I saw this bag, it made me laugh out loud. It’s a great take on the Anya Hindmarch ‘I’m Not a Plastic Bag’ tote, which continues to sell for quite a lot of money on eBay. This bag is made from a heavy canvas and sells for a mere $19.99 at Café Press. I dare you to bring it to the beach, or use it in the city.

Hit The Clutch

Submitted by Christina Valhouli on Wed, 2008-06-18 07:39.

Celestina_clutch.jpgWhether you’re jetting off on holiday or have a formal event to attend, nothing beats the elegant simplicity of a clutch. Ok, they may not hold more than a credit card, lipstick and a cell phone, but you can hand off the rest of your stuff to your boyfriend to make sure you still look good. One of the swankiest clutches we’ve seen in a long time is this mother-of-pearl number from Celestina, available at Net-a-Porter. The Pacquiao clutch has an amethyst clasp and is very rigid, which means it will stand up to a lot of partying. The bag retails for £660.

A Doll's House

Submitted by Christina Valhouli on Wed, 2008-06-18 07:31.

viktor_and_rolf.jpgFans of quirky design duo Viktor & Rolf should head down to the Barbican for the just-opened “The House of Viktor & Rolf.” This exhibit showcases the history of the fashion house, from their days as students at the Academy of Arts in Arnhem, to the brand today. The exhibit, which runs through 21 September, also touches on their collaboration with H&M and the opening of their funky 'upside down' store in Milan in 2005. Workshops include doll-making and how to make the perfect scent, and Viktor & Rolf have also taken over the Barbican’s gift shop, which is sticked with limited edition scarves, perfumes and books.
