I­f you can't get enough of preppy style and you need a more visual manual than "The Preppy Handbook", pick up a copy of "Take Ivy," with photos by T. Hayashida. This cult Japanese book was originally published in 1965 and shows Ivy League students in all their Brooks Brothers, madras shorts and tortoise shell glasses finery. The book is being re-issued by Powerhouse Books and is available at select J. Crew shops and online as well.  And in testament to the staying power of preppiness, many of the students' outfits still look good today - although there is a disturbing amount of men in too-tight pants.
