Watch out, plaid. Although tartan is the textile most closely associated with Scotland, it could soon be replaced by stripes. Missoni, the luxury Italian clothing company known for its bold stripes and patterned knitwear, will open its first hotel in Edinburgh this May in association with the Rezidor Hotel Group. Located on George IV Street along the Royal Mile, the Hotel Missoni will feature 136 bedrooms and 7 suites, as well as the brand’s signature Cucina Missoni restaurant, Bar Missoni, a fitness suite and several meeting spaces.
Guest rooms will showcase plenty of Missoni Home products (hmm we bet they will be for sale too). The Edinburgh location will be joined by another Missoni hotel in Kuwait, and the Rezidor group expects to roll out 30 more around the world in the next 10 years. The Missonis are hardly the only fashion house getting into the hotel business- Armani, Versace, Alberta Ferretti and Azzedine Alaia are all dabbling in the hotel business as well. And once the hotel opens, we’re hoping that the Missonis will whip up their own funky version of a kilt to shake things up in Scotland.
